DogFish Head – Palo Santo Marron

I made a trip to my local BevMo looking to try the 120 Minute IPA by DogFish Head brewing company. Unfortunately the clerk informed me that their distributor was having some trouble getting them that brew but, he did recommend trying Palo Santo Marron also by DogFish Head. As a side note I love how knowledgable and helpful the workers at BevMo. So for 14.99 I purchased my 4 pack and was on my way home for some drinking.

This unfiltered brown ale is aged/brewed in a handmade wooden brewing vessels. This beer is a 12% abv and malty brown ale. I poured the ale into my pint glass and drank it at room temperature. Mainly because I feel that good craft beers must taste just as good at room temperature as they are cold. Also i didn’t feel like waiting for it to get cold in my fridge. I took my first drink and holly crap is that a strong beer. This is definitely a beer you dont want to swig. I sipped slowly and enjoyed the caramel and vanilla taste. This unique taste comes from the Paraguayan Palo Santo wood from which these tanks were crafted. You could really taste the richness of the beer. My wife and I shared  the four pack and both had a good buzz after two beers. Next time your looking for a strong craft beer be sure to pick up Palo Santo Marron by DogFish Head.

DogFish Head Food Pairing Recommendations are: Steak, chorizzo sausage, cajun cuisine, farmhouse cheddar

Brew Year’s Eve

Happy Brew Year’s Eve everyone. Today marks the eve of one of the historic dates in beer history. Brew Year’s Eve celebrates the eve of the modification of the Volstead Act which raised the legal alcohol percentage of beverages from 0.05 percent to 3.2 percent, allowing some beers to be legal once again on April 7, 1933. The acts purpose was to prohibit intoxicating beverages, to regulate the manufacture, production, use and sale of high-proof spirits for other than beverage purposes, and to ensure an ample supply of alcohol and promote its use in scientific research and in the development of fuel, dye and other lawful industries and practices, such as religious rituals. Over 1.5 million barrels of beer was consumed during the first 24-hours after the modification of the act! This was a huge day for craft brewers.

Eight months later, the 21st Amendment was ratified, ending Prohibition after nearly 13 years.

Murphy’s Irish Stout

Today when browsing for beer in my local Albertsons I came across Murphy’s Irish Stout. I decided to pick up a four pack for my next review. I opened up a can a poured a pint. My first impression was that it tast a lot like Guinness. However, once I took my second swig and noticed the after tast. Murphy’s has more of a chocolate milk tast instead of the coffe tast that Guinness has. I instantly thought of all my friends who dislike Guinness because they hate coffee. Finally a perfect alternative, Murphy’s is the perfect alternative stout for those people. The taste is great and still a dark brew.

Murphy’s Irish Stout is now available in 70 countries world wide since being purchased by Heineken. If you’re a lover of dark beer you must try this. It is sold in a can with the Floating Draught System making it perfect to pour in your pint glass at home.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA

As you might know now I’ve developed an interest in the Delaware  Brewing Company Dogfish Head. The first brew I had from the company was the 60 Minute IPA and it was well worth the wait. I then continued to blog about the 60 Minute and received comments that I should try its older brother the 90 Minute IPA. Being the Beer lover that I am I made it a point to go back to the liquor market and pick up this brew. I got to tell you 90 Minute IPA is no joke. With 9% ABV (Alcohol by volume) it has the strong kick that I look for in a beer. It is brewed with just the right amount of hops and does not leave a foul after taste. Although only sold in a four pack these four beers will do their job. The food paring recommendations for this beer are: Pork chops, beef, grilled fish, frites, focaccia, split pea soup, Stilton cheese & escargot. I have included a video below of Sam, Founder of Dogfish Head, explaining the brewing process of the 90 Minute IPA.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

I recently watched “Beer Wars” and developed an interest in the Delaware brewing company Dogfish Head. Dogfish Head is dedicated to brewing fine Ales. I was fortunate to come across the 60 Minute IPA at a near by liquor store by my work. At $12.99 for a six pack the beer was kind of steep but what can I expect from a corner store mini-mart. I went home and cracked open my first beer and let me tell you it was worth every penny. The smooth heavy taste was exactly what I look for in an IPA. The taste lingered in my mouth after my first swig, A nice and heavy beer.

The Dogfish Head websites Food Pairing Recommendations are Spicy foods, pesto, grilled salmon, soy-based dishes, pizza, vintage cheddar.

Only Beer Drinkers Would Understand

In Amsterdam, a world wide convention of brewers was held.

The presidents of many of the world’s greatest breweries were on hand, and many of them decided to go out for dinner together on the first evening.

The waiter asked what they would like to drink, and the CEO of Miller said, “The Best Beer in the world, an MGD please!”

The president of Budweiser asked for “The King of Beers, make it a Bud!”.

Adolph Coors requested a “From mountain spring water, the clearest beer, a Coors if you don’t mind.

And so it went around the large table, each president asking for the brew from his own company as if it was the best.

Finally, the waiter came to Arthur Guinness.

“And you sir?” he queried.

“I’ll have a Coke!” was Guinness’s reply.

“A Coke??!?” The waiter was shocked.

“Wouldn’t you rather have a Guinness, sir?”

Arthur looked at the waiter, and gestured to his companions.
“Well,” he said, “If they’re not drinking beer, then neither will I!”
